The Karl Freudenberg Prize was established by the Freudenberg Group (external link) in 1986 on the 100th birthday of Karl Freudenberg to promote young scientists in Baden-Württemberg. It honours scientific work in the field of natural sciences, in particular chemistry and biology.
The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros.
Who qualifies for nomination?
Researchers should not be older than 35 years. The proposed work should have been published or submitted for publication in the two years before nomination. If several authors are significantly involved in the honoured work, the prize can be awarded to them in equal parts; however, it cannot be split between several independent works.
Who may nominate?
- all members of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences Class of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
- all heads of scientific institutions at universities in Baden-Württemberg (rectorates, deaneries, managing directors, institute directors)
- all heads of non-university research institutions in Baden-Württemberg (managing directors)
- self-nominations are not permitted
