The Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities has the legal form of a public corporation and is the Academy of Sciences and Humanities of the State of Baden-Württemberg. It enjoys the special protection and care of the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts (external link).

The Board of Directors (internal link) manages the Academy. It is composed of the president and the secretaries of both classes. The plenum of the Academy is formed by the members (internal link) of the Mathematical-Scientific Class and the Philosophical-Historical Class. Each class can have a maximum of 50 full members. In addition, up to 50 corresponding members can be appointed in each class
Research projects (internal link) of the Academy are supported by project-accompanying commissions. The commissions support the project during implementation by providing advice and control.
The Agency (internal link) serves and supports the Academy in all its affairs.
