Graduate Network
The ROCEEH Graduate Network unites current PhD students and alumni from Frankfurt and Tübingen as well as affiliated candidates and post-graduates from other projects and institutions. Currently the network integrates students from five disciplines: archaeology, anthropology, paleobiology, bioinformatics, and geography. The ROCEEH Graduate Network offers research opportunities, topics, and sometimes even positions. At regular meetings we discuss our latest results and obtain inspiration for new ideas and joint projects. In the past, we helped organized events such as the ROCEEH online conference “Human Origins - Digital Future (HODiF)” in 2020.
We benefit in many ways as part of the ROCEEH research center. We have researchers with different backgrounds as contact persons, who provide us with many opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange. We participate in different conferences, workshops, and field projects. We benefit from ROCEEH by receiving comments on our work from an interdisciplinary group of supervisors who connect us with potential co-operation partners, broaden our individual horizons, and enrich our creative work.

ROCEEH Conference 'Human Origins - Digital Future'

The ROCEEH Conference “Human Origins—Digital Future” will present and discuss integrative aspects and approaches to the development, use, and future securing of large scientific databases, especially within the context of anthropological research. The primary research question asks how databases with their innovative information technology can be used to gain new knowledge by retrieving and extracting archaeological, paleoanthropological, paleobiological, and paleogeographic information.
With this conference, we will address core issues of digitialization, including possibilities and problems of large, multi-layered databases. Although digital tools are widely applied in scientific projects, questions of linkage, targeted expansion, evaluation, and sustainable safeguarding of databases remain unresolved. New approaches including innovative methods of data mining and machine learning as well as deep learning and artificial intelligence will be addressed.
Sessions will cover Databases, Methods, Applications, Products and Future Perspectives. The conference will take place on the communication platform Zoom and there is no fee to attend.

ROCEEH was co-organizing the 18th Annual Meeting of the NECLIME (Neogene Climate Evolution in Eurasia) Consortium was held in Yerevan, Armenia, at the Botanical Institute of the National Academy of Sciences, from September 18 to 24, 2017.
In the context of the NECLIME conference, a three-day workshop was organized by ROCEEH (in the frame of the PlantBITES project) that introduced young scientists from Georgia and Armenia into quantitative techniques of palaeoenvironmental reconstructions developed in NECLIME.

Current research: Davor Löffler is a lecturer in History of Knowledge at Leuphana University, Lüneburg, Germany, and lecturer for theory of Globalization and Futurology at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Basel. He studied Sociology and Philosophy at the Free University of Berlin where he earned his PhD in Sociology with an interdisciplinary thesis on the history of abstraction and the current shift of social structures, cognition and cosmology in the transition to the Planetary Civilization. Previously he worked as lecturer in Sociology and Philosophy at the BTK University of Art and Design, Berlin, and at the The New Centre for Research and Practice. He collaborated in various interdisciplinary settings such as in AI-research at the Mind Machine Project at the MIT in Cambridge, the “Interacting Minds Center”, Aarhus, Denmark, and the “Role of Culture in Early Expansions of Humans” Group at the Institute of Prehistory, Tübingen, Germany. His current research is focussed on the concept of the human in the 21st Century and on elaborating principles of system transitions.
