History of the University of Heidelberg

1916 - 2003

Marsilius of Inghen, theologian and first rector of Heidelberg University.

Edition of the older university records of the University of Heidelberg, whose significant source value for institutional, economic and intellectual history was made accessible through critical processing.

In the first months of 2002, the work in the department was devoted to the completion of the final fascicle of Volume II of the Rector's Books of the University of Heidelberg. In addition to the second half of the text, this volume will also provide the user with the editorial appendix and the indexes. In accordance with the decisions of the commission, the form of presentation of the edited text was simplified (as in the first fascicle of the volume), an index of personal names and place names was prepared during the reporting period and - to replace the word and subject index that could no longer be compiled - an index of key words, which is intended to make the most important subject headings accessible to users in a hurry. A formal description of the archival material has also been completed.

On July 1, 2002, the Academy dissolved the department and entrusted the editor with other tasks. The tasks still outstanding at that time and the necessary corrections have since been completed on the side. The series of Rector's Books will therefore not be continued for the time being; the commission met for the last time in November 2001. The long-term project “History of the University of Heidelberg” has thus come to an end.
