The Academy Prize is an award established by the friends' association of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (external link ) in 1984 to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
This prize is awarded annually, alternating between the Mathematical-Scientific and Philosophical-Historical Classes:
In 2025, the prize will be awarded by the Philosophical-Historical Class.
The prize is endowed with €10,000.
Who qualifies for nomination?
The prize is awarded for scientific work by young researchers in Germany that has been published or completed and is ready for publication. The work should not have been completed more than three years before the beginning of the year in which the prize is awarded; nominees should not be over the age of 40 at that time. In special cases requiring justification, these restrictions may be waived. The prize may be shared if several authors have contributed to the work; however, it may not be split between several independent works.

- full members of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
- heads of the scientific institutions of the universities in Baden-Württemberg (rectorates, deaneries, managing directors, institute directors)
- heads of non-university research institutes in Baden-Württemberg (managing directors)
- self-nominations are not permitted
