The prize, sponsored by the Hector Foundation (external link) , is aimed at young researchers in the field of computer science. It is intended to encourage young scientists in their research and recognise outstanding scientific achievements. The prize is awarded annually.
The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros and was awarded for the first time in 2023.
Who qualifies for nomination?
The nominees for the award should not have completed their doctorate for more than 5 years. The work on which the nomination is based should have been published or submitted for publication in the previous two years. The prize cannot be awarded to more than one nominee. However, if several candidates are equally involved in a work, the prize can be awarded to them in equal parts.
Who may nominate?
- all members of the mathematics and natural sciences class of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences and Humanities
- all heads of scientific institutions of the universities
- all heads of non-university research institutes in the state of Baden-Württemberg
- self-nominations are not permitted
